Public bar in the Clare Castle Hotel, corner of William and Port Stephens Streets, Raymond Terrace, New South Wales
|Collections||Tooth & Company Limited|
|Date created:||Between 1941 and June 1942|
View of a curved linoleum-topped bar faced with staggered square and rectangular tiles, which also feature on the walls. There is a fluted pattern on the wall trim and the cornices, chromed edgings and fixtures and the room is lit by fountain shaped ceiling lights. Flooring is linoleum and tiles. Other details include a wall clock, a switchboard, a thermometer above the servery hatch and an Ohmer cash register. The Clare Castle Hotel was purchased by Tooth & Company in March 1921 and sold in the early 1980s. On completion of rebuilding at some date between 1941 and June 1942 the hotel was a two storeyed brick structure with a fully tiled ground floor exterior and a tile roof. The architectural style of the interior is known as P. & O. Ship Style because of its similarities to ocean liner forms.
