Eye Contact as a Key Component in Human Robot Interaction

Press, Shaun; Saragih, Jason; Chen, Jason Robert

Description

Eye contact is a key communication prompt in human-to-human interaction involving conversation, especially in large groups. In this paper we report on a project to construct a robotic exhibit at Questacon, the Australian National Science and Technology Museum. This robot will seek to interact with visitors to Questacon, including a conversational interface. This paper reports specifically on an eye-contact behaviour that we have implemented on the robot to couple with this conversational...[Show more]
