Lounge in the Clare Castle Hotel, corner of William and Port Stephens Streets, Raymond Terrace, New South Wales
|Collections||Tooth & Company Limited|
|Date created:||Between 1941 and June 1942|
View of a seating area by a fireplace set in a mantelpiece with mirror tiles on the wall above. The room has windows with curtains and blinds, many-bowled lights hanging from the ceiling and a carpet with a detailled abstract pattern. Furniture includes timber tables and armchairs with padded backs and seats, and a couch. The upholstery material is probably vinyl. The Clare Castle Hotel was purchased by Tooth & Company in March 1921 and sold in the early 1980s. On completion of rebuilding at some date between 1941 and June 1942 the hotel was a two storeyed brick structure with a fully tiled ground floor exterior and a tile roof. The architectural style of the interior is known as P. & O. Ship Style because of its similarities to ocean liner forms.
