Author(s): | Photographer: David R. Eastburn, 1949- |
Description: | This photograph was taken at Koroba Provincial High School, via Koroba, Southern Highlands (now Hela) Province, Papua New Guinea. Photographer's note: The ceremonial dress of a Febi youth includes red ochre body paint, a charcoal face ‘mask’ with white outlines, a decorated tapa cloth head-cape, cuscus fur and Raggiana Bird of Paradise feather forehead-bands, a cowrie shell necklace with a bailer shell segment centre-piece and a bamboo nose plug. Long strings of Job's tear seeds worn, as ear-laces and X ‘baldrics’, complete the image. |
