Description: | Figurines of this type were deposited in foundation boxes as a magic protection for the building. An inscription on the lower part & on tablet names the builder and building. This was for temple of Inanna built by Ur-Nammu, and the basket on his head symbolizes his role as the builder of the temple. -- King of Ur, as basket-carrier, h : 27 cm (British Museum). |
