Owing to systematic mutilation, sculpture in the round is poorly represented. The obelisk of Manishtusu (son of Sargon), a block of diorite entirely covered with inscriptions, is both an invaluable historical document and an artistic achievement heralding, half a millennium ahead, the Code of Hammurabi.
