Description: | This figure was, according to its inscription, dedicated to the goddess Ishtar by Abikhil (Ebih-il), superintendent of the temple. It is one of the most beautiful works of sculpture from the Fara phase. The tufts on the skirt, here for once flamelike, must certainly represent a skin the usual stylised tufts may also have their origin in animal skins.
