Description: The hillsides of Burma are dotted with pagodas, built as an act of merit by devout Buddhists. Since it is more meritorious to build a new pagoda than to repair an old one, the number increases constantly. Sagaing, thirteen miles from Mandalay, is regarded as an especially desirable place to build a pagoda.
