Description: | Here at Mihintale, near the place where Mahinda's bed is found, it is said that Mahinda preached his first sermon. The typical dagoba marks the spot where he preached, and the rocks in the background from the peak on which the gods set foot when they came down to listen and were so moved by his eloquence that they became followers of the Buddha. The Bhikkhu in the foreground is the head of the Buddhist monastery of Mihintale. |
