Metabolism, Compartmentation, Transport and Production of Acetate in the Cortical Brain Tissue Slice

Acetate is a two carbon intermediate in metabolism. It is an accepted marker of astrocytic metabolism, and a substrate for production of metabolites such as glutamine, glutamate and GABA.
