Keywords: | Pallava-- Mahabalipuram (Mamallapuram) - Pallava;architecture;stone sculpture;slide set |
Series/Report no.: | Basham Collection |
Description: | Incorporated within the Shore Temple are many details highly reminiscent of the individual Raths even in scale. A subsidiary chapel on the temple's north side is very close to the Arjan Rath in structural composition, but differs from it in possessing narrower horizontal elements in the roof. Thus, if the roof of the chapel resembles the Arjan Rath with respect to specific elements, it differs from it in the type of element. All the temple's details are sculpturally approached. The walls are never left undecorated in any part - a characteristic feature of developing Pallava architecture, moving away from strictly architectonic treatment. |
