Title: Hanumkonda. Nandin, 12th Century
Author(s): Frederic, Louis
Photographer: Arthur Llewellyn Basham
Keywords: Kakatiya;architecture;stone sculpture;book scan
Series/Report no.: Basham Collection
Description: He has lost his ears as well as the pavilion which used to shelter him. The style of this carving is plain, simple and reasonably anatomical, which distinguishes it from that of the Hoysala. However the multiple garlands which decorate his neck and head are related to the Belur style. It may be that there were direct connections between the Kakatiya and the Hoysala. The chronicles say nothing of this, but the similarity of their styles would seem to suggest it.
