A slender but powerful body and an elongated face characterize this image of Siva as belonging to North Indian medieval styles. The accent on detailing and background decoration makes the work close to the above example from Pala, and one would be inclined to place the two within the same eras if not within the same regional styles. Siva is shown at ease on his kingly chair raising his right hand in the gesture of teaching. His right foot is resting on a dwarf. In this attitude, Siva is the supreme teacher figure of Hindu iconography. His mask-like face seems to reflect little of his knowledgeable character, however.
