Description

The ‘Gibeoniter’ chapter deals with Gryphius’s translation of a play by the outstanding Dutch dramatist of his time, Joost van den Vondel.  The subject matter is an Old Testament episode, where the inhabitants of the city of Gibeon demand that King Saul’s children be killed for the carnage Saul had wrought in their city.
