A cyclotron injector for a proton synchroton

The problem, set at the beginning of 1953, was to construct and bring into operation a cyclotron which would be suitable as an injector for the Canberra proton synchrotron. The main content of this thesis is concerned with work which has been done towards the solution of the problem. At the time a choice of machine for injection was made the requirement that the injection energy should be in the region of 8 Mev ruled out Cockroft-Walton and electrostatic generations.
