dc.description | Although partly damaged, this relief still shows clearly enough the Dipanka Jataka at the point in which Buddha is being received at a city gate, (A woman bows before him at the lower left), The figures are well arranged in their confined space, and depth is suggested by diminishing the size of the figures in the background areas while exaggerating the size of figures in the foreground, Carving is deeply cut so that the images all stand out from the ground in nearly in-the-round condition, thus giving added depth to the already deep composition, Sufficient details suggest whole sections of scenery as was typical of relief creation, The simple door suggests a large entrance or gate, for example, | |
