Description: Only fragments of the vedika are still in existence, The upright posts of this railing were decorated with carvings and medallions: with motifs and scenes from the life of the Buddha, Crosspieces and upright posts were fitted with pegs and grooves, copying previous techniques in wood, Many inscriptions on upright posts, Lotus and sun motifs on medallions, Human and animal figures on corners of posts, At top right a half medallion shows the Buddha and his charioteer, Channa, Two makaras (mythical animals like crocodiles) back to back, form a frieze,
