Mutations in the Plasmodium falciparum ‘chloroquine resistance transporter’ (PfCRT) confer resistance to chloroquine (CQ) and related antimalarials by enabling the protein to transportthese drugs away from their targets within the parasite’s digestive vacuole (DV).
