Tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI) is an established tool in the echocardiographic assessment of cardiac function. Longitudinal cardiac fibres are particularly sensitive to fibrosis, hypertrophy and ischaemia, and impaired long-axis function can therefore provide a sensitive index for the assessment of myocardial function.
