This thesis is a biographical study of Sir Philip Gibbs (1877-1962), one of the most famous and widely read English journalists of the first half of the twentieth century. Prior to the outbreak of World War One he reported on the great crises facing Britain domestically and the technological advances which came to symbolise the age.
