Gamma ray studies in ²⁷Al and ²⁹Al

Abstract

A large part of the work described in this thesis involves the study of gamma ray decay schemes and angular correlations from excited states of ²⁷Al and ²⁹Al . These two nuclei lie in a region of the 2s-ld shell where there is considerable doubt as to the applicability of various nuclear models. This chapter describes several nuclear models which have had some success in describing the known properties of nuclei in the 2s-ld shell.
