A multiphase model of galactic collapse

Hercus, Iain

Description

It is argued that conditions in the formation of the protogalaxy led to a two-phase system: a system of cool cloudlets in which star formation eventually takes place, imbedded in a hot diffuse medium. The dynamical evolution of the system is investigated using Smoothed Particle H ydrodynamical methods. The dissipation caused by the cloudlets colliding with each other is taken into account. It is shown that models which initially have little rotation can collapse to form objects similar to...[Show more]
