A numerical model coupling transient radiative, convective, and conductive heat transfer, mass transfer, and chemical kinetics of a heterogeneous solid–gas reacting system has been developed and applied to a model reaction: the decomposition of calcium carbonate into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide.
