Consequently, the construction of a model of such a system usually involves considerable abstraction. The recent advances in the computing field, notably in the speed of operation, storage space and specialised simulation languages, do relieve some of the difficulty in making models of biological systems. The labour of numerical calculation is removed and a broader approach to the problem is possible. This thesis describes some work that has been done on three particular models.
