Geomorphology and fluvial processes on the coral terraces, Huon Peninsula, Papua New Guinea.

Dunkerley, David Llewellyn

Description

This thesis reports on a study o f the evolution o f stream channel networks and associated valley - side slopes made on the Pleistocene coral terraces of the Huon Peninsula in Papua New Guinea. The established radiometric ages for these terraces form the basis for analysis of both geomorphic events and rates of landform change over 340,000 years. An account is given of carbonate solution processes and their dynamics in relation to the development of the valley - side slopes, based upon...[Show more]

An account is given of carbonate solution processes and their dynamics in relation to the development of the valley - side slopes, based upon instrumental observations. Evolutionary changes during the extension o f the surface drainage net are documented, and a model o f network growth proposed to account for the observed relationships .
