Mucous metaplasia (MM) is an aberrant secretory phenotype that arises during Helicobacter-induced gastric carcinogenesis. HSPA5, a key modulator of the unfolded protein response (UPR) activated by endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is overexpressed in gastric cancer (GC).
