The Australian sheep blowfly, Lucilia cuprina, has evolved resistance to organophosphate insecticides via a single point mutation in a carboxylesterase (E3). In addition to their use as insecticides, organophosphates have been synthesised as chemical warfare agents, posing a threat to humans.
