This group of people includes some of those working at the refinery at the opening of the Works in 1877. Front row (from left): Fred Poolman (Manager), Barlow, Martin, Davis, Austen; Fisher at end. Back row: James Muir (6th from left). In the left background: Davy & Sands Engineering Works and chimney stacks of Australian Smelting Works (behind the derricks). The Pyrmont Refinery site was purchased in 1874 and work commenced there 17 February 1878.
