A Cyclodextrin-Based Photoresponsive Molecular Gate that Functions Independently of Either Solvent or Potentially Competitive Guests

The photoinduced interconversion between cinnamido-substituted cyclodextrins constitutes a gating switch through which the substituent moves to open or block access to the cyclodextrin cavity.
