Historical Documents and Wuyi Qiaoxiang Culture

Abstract

This paper discusses the culture of the Wuyi qiaoxiang area in Guangdong, China, from a transnational perspective. In order to examine the research potential of the Wuyi area, we highlight the links between using local materials and applying new methodologies in the context of transnational and integrated global systems. We discuss the literature on regional studies and overseas Chinese studies. We also examine the contribution of the Research Centre on Qiaoxiang Culture at Wuyi University in Jiangmen and their research outputs. And finally we explore the future direction of qiaoxiang studies, discussing new methodologies such as GIS and material culture. Show more
