Abstract

The Commonwealth Government is increasing its emphasis on public health and quality of care, which will require a capacity to measure health outcomes and develop strategies for continuous improvement. The reforms being considered by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) are designed to improve the quality of health services by allowing the Commonwealth to concentrate on broader strategic analysis and performance measures.
