Maternalism, Professionalism and Industrial Welfare Supervisors in World War I Britain
Abstract
In World War I Britain, the sudden and enormous expansion of munitions production meant a vast and rapid influx of women factory workers. Women welfare supervisors became a new profession. This article analyses their roles and the bases for professional authority that they created.
