But if Hal Colebatch doubts the industriousness as well as the fair-mindedness of academic historians, we have a rich new report to consult. In October, Mapping the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences in Australia was released by the Australian Academy of the Humanities. Graeme Turner and Kylie Brass wrote the report, with significant involvement by several Fellows of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia including historians Joy Damousi and Stephen Garton; the report also received support from the Department of Industry and the Office of the Chief Scientist. Based on a great deal of data analysis and advice from a range of experts, the report is quite a revelation.en
