The surgical care of Indigenous Australians: A structured orientation programme

Abstract

Indigenous Australians suffer a much greater burden of illness than other Australians and deserve high-quality surgical care. Physically getting such care to them is often hampered by issues of remoteness. Even when a surgeon and an Indigenous patient successfully come together in a consulting room or a hospital there is still much that can be done to enhance the experience and the outcomes for all parties.
