Abstract

Near 2.5-octave supercontinuum (SC) generation spanning from 0.5 to 2.9 μm is reported in a well dispersion-engineered Ta2O5 waveguide pumped by a dual-wavelength femtosecond fiber laser at 1.55 μm and 1.97 μm, respectively, which is the broadest spectrum reported so far in Ta2O5 material platform. Moreover, there are no residual pump components in the spectrum, and the pulse energy conversion efficiency shows a record level of around 92%. Additionally, the fluctuation of the output power stability is within 0.33% over an hour. The results demonstrate the enormous potential applications of the Ta2O5 waveguides in nonlinear integrated photonics.
