Submission in Response to Electricity Retail Supply Code Review – Draft Decision Paper

Abstract

This submission was made to the Utilities Commission of the Northern Territory (UCNT) Electricity Retail Supply Code (ERS Code) Review in December 2022. The purpose of the UCNT’s review was to determine the relevance and effectiveness of the ERS Code, which sets the rules for licensed entities operating in the electricity industry. The consultation occurred in two stages with stakeholders invited to respond to an Issues Paper and subsequently the Draft Decision. This submission responds to the Draft Decision and advocates for the strengthening of consumer rights and protections for prepayment meter households in the Northern Territory, including hardship and family violence protections as well as protections from disconnection during temperature extremes.
