Abstract

In 1978, the Chairman of the Academy of Sciences National Committee for Quaternary Research, Professor E.S. Hills, retired from that position. In reflecting on the role of the Committee and its relationship with the rapidly developing Quaternary sciences in Australia he stressed the need for a geographic focus in sharpening and synthesising the results of Late Quaternary palaeoclimatic studies. The idea caught on; CLIMANZ is the result.
