Abstract

Photograph of a workers' procession and onlookers in Hunter Street. In the foreground, bakers in white aprons and caps carry a stretcher frame that supports the Operative Bakers' Association banner. The banner's imagery includes two bakers clasping hands above a bushel of wheat. At the figures' feet is depicted a ribbon with the motto: United We Stand . Divided We Fall. Behind the banner walk two lines of bakers followed by their float which displays a tableau of a working bakery with painted brick walls. Some of the marching bakers and men in suits at the far right of the photograph appear to be wearing sash-like regalia. Among the onlookers are many men in boater hats and a small girl who has climbed on to a veranda post. Names on buildings include A.D Robinson and Misses Thompson. Telegraph poles are a prominent street feature.
