Abstract
Description
Photographer's note: This photograph was taken with the aid of pilot Rob Willis-Jones, Missionary Aviation Fellowship, Tari, Southern Highlands (now Hela) Province. This reach of the Strickland is rarely cloud free. The densely forested, narrow rainswept alluvial plain to the right, between the river and the towering escarpment of the Muller Range, is the home of the Febi people. To the left, on the western side of the river, and in the lower Murray (Wongop) Valley, live the culturally and linguistically closely related Konai people. A cane bridge across the Strickland at Takadui, just below Falls Gorge, forms a tenuous link between the two groups.
