This is a shrine in Kalimpong, showing how the Kagyur and Tangyur are considered to be the most sacred objects of reverence
the different volumes of the Tibetan scriptures are in the cases at the back of the room. Standing in front of the scriptures is Geshe Wangyal, a Mongol follower of Tibetan Buddhism who has studied for many years in Lhasa. Since this picture was taken, he has come to the United States to serve as spiritual head for the community of Kalmuks who have settled at Freewood Acres, Farmingdale, New Jersey. He is an outstanding Tibetan scholar.
