Abstract
The Waterside Workers' Federation of Australia first mobilised its members in the struggle for superannuation in 1953. They demanded a fund to finance a pension for veterans - 8 pounds a week after 20 years in the industry and having reached the age of 65 - a fund financed by a levy on employers.
