As we have seen earlier in this series, reliefs bearing scenes from Buddha's life are exceptionally righ in Ghandaran art and have decidedly personal touches in their imagery, Here, the miraculous conversion of Kasyapas at Uruvilva is depicted: the conversion of a non-believer by the miracle of fire performed by the Buddha to prove his attainment of the Enlightenment, The joy expressed by the vigorous gesticulations of all the figures and the stoic yet attentive addressing gesture of the Buddha convey the wonder of the event, which has just taken place, Kasyapas and his entourage have all had their eyes opened: obvious in their aghast expressions: while the Buddha has happily shown them that he is the Enlightened One, Ghandaran reliefs are famous for their marvelous technical handling of space, which was convincingly handled even in bas-reliefs, -- London, British Museum,
