Abstract

Description

Ujjain, one of the holy cities of Siva, has several temples of Indo-Aryan type with the sikhara flanked by successive "shoulders". These temples were probably erected about the 12th century, but underwent a number of later modifications which renders [sic] their dating only approximate. A dome of the Mongol type from Gujarat, which serves as a roof for the temple mandapa, can be seen between the sikharas. The style of this temple pre-figures that of the Jaina temple cities.
