Abstract

Description

The growth of Asian studies is transforming the syllabuses of Australian schools. The changes are coming fast, and reach down to the primary and up to the tertiary levels. The Federal Government, in co-operation with the State Governments which control schooling in their boundaries, has stepped in to examine the situation from a national perspective. The purpose of Asian studies is to give students practical knowledge - knowledge that can be put to work in doing business in Asia, assisting regional security, aiding Asian development and learning from Asian thought and experience.
