Abstract
Description
In the secular buildings it is more evident that the Indians were creating new styles in architecture from their exposure to Moslem tastes. Here at the elephant Gate at the Man Singh Palace are Hindu arches in Mohammedan application and even features of western characteristics such as those found in European castles. Sculptural decoration has been toned down to fit a purely secular role and is handsomely handled even though the number of motifs used is quite limited and less complex in form. Vestigial turrets have been attached to the gate for mere adornment and serve no real purpose while the small lantern-like windows just inside them are both decorative and functional.
