Description

Like the examples unearthed at Mohenjo-daro, these little figures were also made of reddish clay, well kneaded by hand, bearing a red wash or slip, occasionally polished, Unlike the larger sandstone sculptures, such as the torso in slide 34, the treatment of bodily details is more haphazard in these figures, be they either secular or religious types, The mother-goddess appears here, too, and with her several types displaying horned masks which may have been used for the purpose of scaring off evil spirits,
