Abstract

Photograph taken from the Esplanade of Perth Water and the Swan River, with South Perth in the distance. The occasion is Queen Victoria's seventy ninth birthday. Crowds of people kept at a distance by soldiers on horseback watch lines of troops on parade along the foreshore. Various buildings and a marquee can be seen on the recreation ground. On the water, a long structure with onion domes linked to the land by jetty is the Perth City Baths, demolished some time before 1925. In the foreground are a variety of horsedrawn vehicles.
