Abstract

Description

In the courtyard of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha there is a long gallery decorated with murals telling the story of the Ramayana, the Hindu epic which is even today an important part of the culture of Thailand. Here Hanuman has grown to great size so the warriors in Rama's army can use his tail as a bridge to cross from India to Ceylon to rescue Sita. It is a common sight to see parents taking their children past these murals, telling them the cherished story of Rama and Sita.
