Abstract

Description

According to tradition, Asoka sent his son Mahinda as a missionary to Ceylon, about 250 B.D. He is said to have first set foot on Ceylon at Mihintale, some eight miles from Anuradhapura, and to have slept under the shelter of the big rock in this picture, in a hollowed-out place near the left side of the base of the largest rock.
