This photograph was taken at Koroba Provincial High School, via Koroba, Southern Highlands (now Hela) Province, Papua New Guinea. Photographer's note: A bamboo nose plug is lubricated with saliva before it is inserted into the nasal septum using a twisting action. Bamboo nose plugs are popular with both men and women of the Papuan lowland forests.
